Clio Newton (b. 1989) is an American figurative realist artist living and working in Zurich. Her large-format portraits in oil, charcoal and coloured pencil centre on the psychology of the figure and the nature of looking.
Newton received her BFA from The Cooper Union, New York, and her MFA from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Zurich. She is a three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant, was awarded the AKKU Artist in Residency grant in Zurich, and was selected as a top emerging artist by Artagon, Paris.
Her work is held in the collections of the Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover, MA; the Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, MD; the Flint Institute of Arts, Flint, MI; and 21c Museum, Louisville, KY.
